What Does Freedom Require?

There is no freedom without virtuous living; sound and biologically-normal integrated and disciplined human sexuality; esteemed and deliberately-tended family life; localism; subsidiarity; grassroots cooperativity; small and abundant free enterprises; intellectual growth through unsurveilled, non-electronic study (viz., books, experimentation, lectures); authentic and truth-seeking, confident, duly-polite conversation; a commitment to scientific reasoning, logic and unrestricted, non-propagandistic historical analysis; as well as--most importantly--a deep, Christian faith based on the Scripture, prayer, the Sacraments and seasoned spiritual reflection on Patristics and the permeation of culture and society by the verities of Scholastic theology and philosophy (e.g., Aquinas and, by incorporation, Aristotle).
Respecting one's ancestral family, ethnos and nation are often-overlooked, natural goods that are essential for social and international peace and common prosperity among bordered nations.
There are no competitors to the above for a perduring, resilient, safe and flourishing personal life and national security not threatened by tyranny from within or attack from without. Lots of fancy gadgets, weapons and intrusive use of information is unnecessary for such a self-governing people.
